Larson Brothers Mine Camp is a free, dispersed camping area nestled right along The Million Dollar Highway (Hwy 550) between Silverton and Ouray, CO. This area had plenty of open camping spots and rigs varied from small vans like my Westy up to some 30' toy haulers.

The good spots are too tight for those larger trailers so it was pretty easy to find a nice spot tucked away in the trees.

Even though the camp sites are right along Hwy 550, there wasn't much road noise. At night there was almost no traffic, not many traveled this road at night so that gave me a nice peaceful evening.

There are a few cool old buildings that were built in the 1940's to visit and photograph. This was an old mining site and has been kept in place and kept up by the city of Ouray as they have named it a Local Historic Site.

I was here in the month of September so I got to see the fall colors setting in.

I loved shooting photos of the details in these old structures. Lots of history here. Man if these walls could speak. I'm sure they'd have some good stories to tell.

This area offered some great views and being a decent distance from town, there was plenty of dark sky for some great stargazing!

At an elevation of 9,700ft it definitely got nice and chilly at night which made for a great night's sleep.

If you're ever passing through the San Juan Mountain Range on your way to Silverton or Ouray be sure and stop here for the night.
