CA - Oakland: 1990 Vanagon Westfalia Camper

Status: RECOVERED
Status Date: November 8, 2023

Crazy story. On Wednesday my friends found my van! They were going into In-N-Out Burger in Alameda and spotted my van gassing up at the Safeway gas station. They somehow tracked the van down to an encampment after it left the gas station. I don't know how they figured out where to find the van. They were eating when the thief drove away. Luckily my friends had taken video and photographs of that van at the gas station sleuthing around it while the guy was in it. After they found it along the shoreline in Alameda, they contacted and waited for the police to show for 2 hours. The police came in all directions with their lights off to corner the guy, a serial car thief with a warrant out for his arrest. They came in 7 cops guns drawn. Anyway, my son had the van towed out of the encampment outside but up a couple of houses from where I live. No plates are on it right now. A bunch of damage. It's not drivable as the thief installed a different ignition switch so my key won't fit. It definitely is salvageable.
